Lead Mechanical Engineer (Turbogenerator) in Happy Valley
We are partnering with an innovative renewable energy company that is harnessing the power of the open ocean—Earth's largest and most power-dense renewable resource—to deliver abundant, affordable clean energy. They are seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to play a critical role in the design, development, and deployment of the turbogenerator within their core technology. This is a hands‑on position where you'll guide the technical vision while also prototyping, testing, and problem‑solving alongside a world‑class team.

The role is located in Portland, OR.

What You'll Do:
* Lead the design, development, and integration of the turbogenerator system.
* Define and own performance requirements and design goals.
* Design and analyze key components: shafts, housings, bearings, dynamic seals, turbine blades, and stators.
* Select advanced materials and coatings for long‑term marine deployment.
* Collaborate across electromagnetics, controls, fluid dynamics, and marine operations teams.
* Drive manufacturability, offshore assembly, and serviceability in design.
* Lead and participate in design reviews with internal teams and external vendors.
* Oversee documentation, drawings, and tolerance analysis.
* Mentor technicians and guide prototyping, fabrication, and testing.
* Troubleshoot issues, conduct root cause analysis, and iterate designs.
* Utilize high‑end CAD (NX), PDM (Teamcenter), and FEA tools.
Required Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Naval Architecture, or related.
* Extensive experience with rotating machinery (pumps, turbines, compressors, turbochargers, etc.).
* 5+ years of 3D CAD modeling experience.
* Strong knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack‐ups, and FEA.
* Hands‑on experience assembling tight‑tolerance rotating equipment.
* Proven ability to manage projects from concept through test and deployment.
* Strong communication, leadership, and problem‑solving skills.
Desired Qualities (a plus, not required):
* Advanced degree or additional 5 years of experience.
* Prior leadership of engineering teams.
* Background in marine/offshore machinery design.
* Experience with subsea bearings, hydrodynamic/hydrostatic bearings, or piping systems.
* Familiarity with rapid prototyping and instrumentation/controls.
* NX/Teamcenter, NASTRAN, FEMAP, or similar analysis software.
Programming/data analysis with Python or Julia.
