About the role
The Senior Media Specialist will engage with leading national and local media outlets and support the Communications team by developing and executing media plans for campaigns, corporate announcements and issue responses. The role reports to the Head of External Channels & Media and is hybrid, based in Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane with occasional on‑site and interstate travel.

What You'll Do
* Serve as media liaison for proactive pitching and reactive enquiries.
* Develop and deliver media plans to support campaigns, projects, and major announcements.
* Partner with Campaigns, Owned Editorial and Social Media teams to ensure integrated media activity.
* Contribute to the planning and delivery of Telstra's media engagement strategy.
* Create media content such as releases, statements and messages.
* Manage day‑to‑day media enquiries efficiently.
* Conduct media training for executives.
* Act as spokesperson when appropriate.
* Build and strengthen media relationships across digital, broadcast, and print.
* Handle major and minor media issues and craft messages for social and employee channels.
* Provide strategic advice to senior leadership on media plans, execution and issues.
* Build stakeholder relationships internally and with national media.
* Research, report, and share insights on media performance.
About You
* Strong media‑relations skills with deep knowledge of the Australian media landscape and established relationships with mainstream media.
* Expertise in relationship management across TV, radio, digital, print and emerging channels.
* Excellent writing and verbal communication, even under contentious circumstances.
* Project‑management ability to oversee multiple campaigns with competing deadlines.
* Influencing and stakeholder‑management skills, providing strategic counsel to senior executives.
* Deep understanding of media channels and how to use each medium to reach target audiences.
* Team‑oriented with strong interpersonal skills.
* Tertiary qualification in communications, journalism or a related discipline.
* Experience in telecommunications, technology, or an ASX‑listed business is an advantage.

FY26 Part of Business Shutdown: Telstra will pause hiring until 7th January 2026. Applications will be reviewed once operations resume.
