The TAFE NSW Manufacturing Centres of Excellence (MCoE),are National Centres of Excellence, a joint initiative between the Australian Government and NSW Government under the National Skills Agreement.
MCoEs are an innovative education model to tackle the manufacturing skills challenge for NSW and Australia. Located in Western Sydney, the Hunter, and the Illawarra, each centre specialises in different areas. These include advanced manufacturing with robotics and 3D printing, supporting clean energy in net zero manufacturing and sustainable manufacturing practices, supporting the heavy manufacturing industry, and supporting new and existing workforce build the skills they need for the future.
By partnering with other CoEs, TAFES, universities, and industry, these nationally networked centres ensure training aligns with real-world job requirements. The MCoEs offer short courses, microskills, and will soon deliver higher apprenticeships to help individuals become job-ready or enhance their skills for future opportunities.
About the role
TAFE NSW is seeking three experienced Senior Technical Officers, with one position based at each of the MCoE campuses: Newcastle, Wetherill Park, and Wollongong. These roles are temporary full-time positions, with appointments extending until 30 June 2028.
As a Senior Technical Officer, you will play a critical role in enabling the delivery of high-quality, student-centred learning experiences across our Skills Teams. You will be responsible for providing advanced technical and classroom support, managing ancillary services, and overseeing the effective utilisation of physical assets and resources.
In the initial phase, you will be actively involved in establishing the MCoE facilities, including the installation and commissioning of machinery and equipment. Your leadership will be essential in mentoring and training technical staff, coordinating maintenance and repair activities, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
Working closely with senior staff and your line manager, you will contribute to the creation of a safe, inclusive, and efficient learning environment that reflects TAFE NSW's values and commitment to educational excellence, innovation, and student success.
About You
You are a proactive and highly skilled technical professional with a strong background in supporting hands-on, skills-based learning environments. You take pride in delivering high-quality technical and class support and thrive in a role where you can lead others, solve problems, and contribute to student success.
You bring experience in managing and maintaining specialist equipment, coordinating technical staff, and ensuring that workshops, labs, and teaching spaces operate safely and efficiently. Ability to juggle competing priorities, communicate effectively with educators and students, and stay calm under pressure.
To be eligible for this role you will have:
- Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent skills, knowledge and experience.
Highly Regarded:
- Experience in establishing or managing manufacturing training facilities.
- A genuine interest in advanced manufacturing (robotics, automation, programming, renewable energy, additive and subtractive manufacturing).
- Knowledge of artificial intelligence applications in manufacturing and the integration of digital technologies in educational settings.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and problem-solving skills.
