You will be working from the pretty town of Broken Hill in NSW (Pop circa 17.500k, expanding to 33,000 with tourists and itinerant workers). The community is diverse, with many German, French, and Australian residents. In this role as a Family Law Paralegal, you will work as part of a small team supporting lawyers addressing complex family law issues such as intergenerational trauma, redress problems, and stolen generation matters. Their legal team is passionate about making a difference in the community and providing high‑quality family law legal services. This role involves working closely with clients facing challenging circumstances, including family breakdown and domestic violence cases. You will be responsible for assisting with managing legal files, drafting documents, and supporting clients through their legal journeys. This role requires significant amounts of patience, resilience and empathy. There will be lots of support and mentorship available, as well as EPA counselling services should you want them.
To be successful you will have proven work experience in family law. Secondary to this, criminal law or historical sexual abuse law experience might be considered. There will be progression opportunities for those studying law to later practice. You must have strong organisational and empathetic communication skills and be able to adapt to the unique needs of the clientele.
