This role requires a blend of strong multimedia design skills and a deep understanding of, and experience with, the trade union movement. You will translate complex industrial, social, and political issues into engaging and accessible multimedia content that supports our organising, campaigning, and educational objectives. The ideal candidate will have proven experience working for or closely with a trade union or trades and labour council, understanding how to tailor content to resonate with workers and advocate for their rights.

Key Responsibilities:

Drawing on your experience within the trade union movement, your duties will include:

* Content Development for Strategic Union Objectives:
* Plan, design, and develop multimedia content (static and animated information, text, pictures, video, sound) that effectively communicates SA Unions' campaigns, industrial rights, member benefits, and promotes worker solidarity.
* Develop digitally delivered information and promotional content specifically aimed at union members, potential members, and stakeholders, supporting organising and growth objectives.
* Create instructional materials (e.g., videos, infographics, interactive modules) explaining workers' rights, enterprise agreements, WHS, and other union-specific information.
* Campaign-Focused Multimedia Production:
* Design and produce visually compelling assets for digital and print media to support SA Unions' campaigns, including materials for websites, social media (organic and paid), e-newsletters, brochures, and reports.
* Film, edit, and produce video and audio content that tells workers' stories, highlights union wins, promotes events (rallies, meetings, training sessions), and explains complex union issues.
* Collaborate with SA Unions' teams to understand their needs and translate campaign strategies and industrial information into effective multimedia products tailored to the intended audience and purpose.
* Brand Management & Digital Presence:
* Ensure all content and design work powerfully reflects SA Unions' identity, values, and strategic messaging, strengthening our voice for working people.
* Develop and maintain a library of graphic and multimedia assets (photo, video, templates) that are current, on-brand, and relevant to union activities.
* Support the maintenance and visual appeal of SA Unions' website (WordPress), ensuring content is up-to-date, user-friendly, and effectively communicates union priorities.
* Apply SEO best practices to enhance the visibility of SA Unions' online content and campaigns.
* Project & Asset Management:
* Manage multimedia projects from concept to completion, including liaising with internal teams, SA Unions affiliate unions, and external suppliers when necessary (e.g., for large-scale video production or printing).
* Maintain an organised archive of design files and content assets.

Skills and Experience:

* Demonstrated experience working directly for, or in very close collaboration with, a trade union, trades and labour council, or a similar member-based advocacy organisation. This is a critical requirement.
* Qualifications in Visual Communications or Design or equivalent, and/or proven experience in the field.
* A strong portfolio showcasing a range of digital and print work, ideally including examples of materials developed for campaigns, member communications, or worker advocacy.
* Proven ability to translate complex information (e.g., industrial relations matters, campaign messages) into clear, engaging, and accessible multimedia content for diverse audiences.
* Expertise in visual design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Illustrator, InDesign) and digital content tools such as Canva.
* Proficiency in video content creation and editing, from concept and filming through to post-production and delivery.
* Experience in creating engaging social media content using static images, text, animation, and video.
* Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with an ability to craft clear and persuasive copy tailored for union communications.
* Strong understanding of branding and visual identity development, particularly within an advocacy or not-for-profit context.
* A solid understanding of web design principles and experience with content management systems (specifically WordPress).
* Familiarity with union coverage, key industrial issues, and socio-political priorities in South Australia.
* Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a dynamic environment.
* Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, union officials, and members.
* A genuine commitment to the values and principles of the trade union movement.
* Experience working in an education or training organisation, particularly in developing instructional materials.
* Experience with digital asset management systems and version control.
* Basic understanding of digital advertising platforms (e.g., Facebook Ads Manager, Google Ads) and SEO best practices.

Candidates will be required to obtain a Working With Children Check.

What We Offer:

* A dynamic and rewarding role at the forefront of advancing workers' rights in South Australia.
* The opportunity to use your creative skills to make a tangible difference.
