Waggrakine Primary School (PS) is seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2025 school year and up to the end of Term 3, 2026. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
Waggrakine PS is an inclusive mainstream school with an endorsed Education Support program for students with additional needs. As part of a collaborative and inclusive learning environment, you will contribute to both the Education Support program that caters for students with high educational needs, and the support of students within mainstream classrooms.
Located on Yamatji Country in Geraldton, Waggrakine PS is a well-established Independent Public School with an Index of Community Socio-Educational Advantage (ICSEA) of 867 and enrolment of 394 students, more than a third of whom identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. The Role
As a Special Needs Education Assistant at Waggrakine PS, you will work closely with the Deputy Principal Inclusive Learning, Lead Education Assistants and classroom teachers to implement specialised education programs and foster a supportive, inclusive environment that meets the diverse needs of students.
We are seeking applicants who are committed to working collaboratively and who value building positive relationships with students, parents, staff and the wider community. Our focus on targeted academic, social and emotional goals supports students to successfully engage in all aspects of school and community life. Suitable applicants will join a caring, connected and student-focused team, using a preventative and restorative approaches to build trusting relationships with students and actively supporting the development of emotional regulation skills.
Experience with supporting students with disabilities is highly desirable. Special Needs Education Assistants at Waggrakine PS work across the school, including within our endorsed Education Support Program. The ability to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behaviour Support Plans, as well as support student’s daily living requirements, is essential. Experience in assisting students with a range of high and low-tech Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) is also valued.
Suitable applicants will demonstrate the ability to provide feedback on education and therapy programs and activity contribute to the evaluation of students’ progress towards their individual education goals.

Eligibility
To work with us, you must:

- be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
- obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start; and
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before you start.

- A CV of up to three (3) pages outlining your employment history and professional learning summary relevant to this position
- A three (3) page statement addressing the following selection criteria as outlined in the attached JDF
- Demonstrated good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with students with special needs, parents and teaching professionals on the provision of educational programs, and to assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
- Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team in the evaluation of educational programs, including special education and therapy programs where these have been implemented.
- Demonstrated good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery and development of effective education programs to students and subsequent feedback to teaching professionals or psychologists.
- Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
- Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
