Primary objective
As a member of the HUB Pathology Group work team, positively contribute to the provision of a timely, efficient, cost
effective and high-quality service to the Department of Health and public of the Northern Territory

Context statement
The successful applicant will be appointed to the Territory Pathology (TP) team located at the Gove District Hospital
contributing to the pre- analytical laboratory processes and working predominantly Monday - Friday. This vacancy maps to

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Perform specimen reception duties including data entry and assisting with general and technical enquiries.
2. Perform start-up and maintenance of equipment and POCT testing
3. Make appropriate decisions and provide advice on sample acceptability, suitability, handling and processing, including

the appropriate prioritising of requests in consultation with the RDH Client Services Manager and/or Senior Scientists.
4. Investigating problems involving specimen collection, couriers, result reporting and turnaround times.
5. Coordinate supplies of stocks and reagents and participate in preventative and corrective maintenance of the laboratory

and equipment.
6. Perform internal and external quality control procedures to ensure analytical standards are maintained in accordance

with NATA/RCPA requirements.
7. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being

undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
8. Actively participate in on-going continuing development to ensure establishment and maintenance of best practice.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. A relevant qualification awarded by an Australian institution, or equivalent; or relevant experience in a field of technical

work closely related to the duties of the vacancy is mandatory. International Air Transport Association (IATA)
certification under the Dangerous Goods Act or willingness to complete a suitable training course.

2. Previous work experience in a pathology laboratory.
3. Demonstrated ability to continue to develop the required skills and knowledge of the role and be an active team member.

Demonstrated strong work ethic with the ability to impart skills and knowledge in the comprehensive training of other
team members. An ability to organise work according to priorities and to execute duties reliably and responsibly under
pressure. Developing awareness of monitoring stock levels in daily use to initiate ordering in a timely manner.

4. Demonstrated ability to operate within boundaries, taking personal responsibility for completion of tasks in a timely
manner, acknowledging personal development needs and demonstrating a commitment to learning and self-
development.
