Hands-on manufacturing experience highly valued
About Xero Lighting
At Xero Lighting, we specialise in the design, manufacture, and distribution of world-class linear lighting systems. As a design-led and proudly Australian manufacturer, our ambition is to become the global leader in linear lighting. Joining our talented, supportive, and innovative team offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a rapidly growing business and play a pivotal role in our continued success.
Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled and self-motivated Production Engineer to join our Production Engineering Department. This role is ideal for a technically capable, detail-oriented problem solver who can work independently to translate architectural design intent into production-ready outcomes. We're looking for someone who understands products because they've built them, not just drawn them. Manufacturing floor experience is valued equally to formal qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
Translate architectural project requirements into manufacturable product solutions using Xero's extensive product range.
Work independently to produce detailed engineering documentation, drawings, and NC manufacturing files.
Engineer and design custom components for project-specific applications.
Identify opportunities for design and process improvements to enhance efficiency, quality, and manufacturability.
Collaborate with sales, design, and production teams to ensure designs meet technical, aesthetic, and practical requirements.
Maintain ownership of assigned projects from concept through to production release.
Prepare clear sales and production documentation using AutoCAD LT, Rhino3D, and PTC Creo Parametric.
Contribute to the development of design standards, process documentation, and best practices.
Required Skills and Experience
3+ years working with manufacturing/fabrication processes (workshop floor, assembly, production, or drafting).
Proven ability to manage projects independently with minimal supervision.
Strong working knowledge of 2D CAD (AutoCAD LT) and 3D CAD (PTC Creo Parametric); Rhino3D experience highly regarded.
Practical knowledge of how products are made, assembled, and what works in production.
Demonstrated ability to problem-solve, analyse constraints, and deliver practical, cost-effective solutions.
Excellent documentation and version control skills.
Practical knowledge of manufacturing, particularly in aluminium extrusion, lighting components, or related fields.
Practical understanding of what makes designs manufacturable, gained from hands-on production experience.
Ability to spot design issues before they reach the workshop floor.
Strong written and verbal communication skills to liaise with internal teams and external clients.
Competence with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for data management and reporting.
Personal Attributes
Confident self-starter with a practical, hands-on approach.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and prioritise tasks effectively.
Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Adaptable and capable of thriving in a dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships.
Motivated by innovation, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
Someone who learned by doing and can translate that practical knowledge into technical documentation.
Comfortable moving between workshop and office as needed.
