Located in Parramatta – flexible and hybrid arrangements available

$265,293 - $290,239 total remuneration payable

Your role

As the Director Internal Audit, you will design and implement a robust assurance framework that gives confidence to the Secretary and the Audit and Risk Committee (ARC) that the Department's financial, operational and governance controls are effectively managing risk and enabling the organisation to achieve its objectives.

In this senior leadership role, you will oversee the development, delivery and continuous improvement of an integrated Fraud and Corruption Control System. You will lead the creation and stewardship of the policies, frameworks and processes that identify, prevent, detect and manage fraud and corruption risks across DCJ, ensuring the highest standards of integrity, accountability and ethical conduct.

What You'll Do

As the Director Internal Audit your role will include:

Provide strategic leadership of the internal audit function, delivering expert risk, governance, and assurance advice that strengthens financial and operational performance across the Department.Develop and execute a contemporary internal audit charter, strategy and forward program that delivers independent, risk‐based insights valued by the ARC, executive and key stakeholders.Oversee quality and compliance through a robust Quality Assurance Improvement Program (QAIP), ensuring alignment with NSW Government and Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Standards.Build strong relationships with executive leaders and external oversight bodies (e.g. Audit Office NSW, Ombudsman, ICAC), providing high‐quality reporting, coordinating audit schedules, monitoring actions, and overseeing effective ARC secretariat support.

What We're Looking For

Extensive senior executive experience managing multi‐stream service delivery, with strong expertise in internal audit, governance and assurance. Proven ability to develop and implement an internal audit mandate, charter and strategy aligned to organisational goals. Strong understanding of audit quality frameworks and experience leading a QAIP compliant with NSW Government and IIA Standards. Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively with executives, regulators and external audit bodies. Highly developed communication skills, including preparing clear and timely reports for bodies such as Audit Office NSW, Ombudsman and ICAC. Demonstrated capability in leading fraud and corruption control frameworks, policies and programs. A collaborative, people‐focused leader who builds high‐performing teams and promotes integrity and accountability.
