Support Worker Alcohol and Other Drugs (Serenity House)

Location: BURNIE

Part Time

1 x 26 hours per week (includes day work and every second weekend)

1 x 20 hours per week (includes sleepover night shifts, days, and evenings on weekday/weekends)

City Mission is seeking compassionate support workers to join our team at Serenity House.

Serenity House is a Sobering Up and Place of Safety facility staffed 24/7 located in Burnie, North-West Tasmania. It is also a place for ‘time-out’, offering communal living under the support and supervision of trained staff. While staying at Serenity House, individuals have the opportunity to look at long term options for recovery and this may include a pathway to longer term residential rehabilitation services.

SELECTION CRITERIA

(Essential Qualifications/Experience):

- Certificate IV in Community Services or relevant field, or willingness to obtain.

- Relevant experience with demonstrated transferable skills.

- Demonstrated communication and administrative skills.

- Good digital literacy skills including experience with MS Office.

- Ability to work unsupervised.

- Demonstrated ability to comply with policy and procedures.

- Demonstrated ability to support people with complex needs.

- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive professional relationships with staff, clients and stakeholders.

- Current Driver’s Licence.

- National Police Check is required for all roles at LCM.

- Registration to Work with Vulnerable People is required for all roles at LCM.

(Desirable Qualifications/Experience):

- Experience or demonstrated capacity to work in an organisation adopting a Christian ethos.

- Demonstrated time management and prioritisation skills.

- Relevant experience facilitating groups.

- Positive understanding of underlying causes of substance misuse and related treatments including:

- The impact of trauma on individuals and families.

- The effects of substance use on the body, including symptoms of intoxication and withdrawal.

- The prevalence and impact of co-occurring mental health concerns.

- The ability to complete comprehensive assessments for clients seeking assistance with their substance use.

- The principles and purpose of brief intervention support and relapse prevention.

- Assist Clients with Medication certification or willingness to obtain.

- Apply First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.

The position is required to provide high quality support to clients at Serenity House. The position requires the employee to develop working relationships with clients, colleagues, and the AOD Management structure. Primarily the Support Worker will be responsible for the provision of support for clients including general client supervision, transportation, medication managements, group facilitation and general administrative tasks.

This is a part-time position and salary will be based on the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 [MA000100]. As a Public Benevolent Institution, LCM employees are eligible to Salary Package through our approved provider.
