Foster and Kinship Carers Association NT (FKCANT) is an independent, community-based, not-for-profit organisation that empowers foster and kinship carers through knowledge, support, and advocacy.
As the peak body for foster and kinship carers across the Northern Territory, our core mission is to represent and advocate for the best interests of carers—both current and prospective. We work to ensure policies and practices implemented by the Department of Children and Families (DCF) are fair, equitable, and appropriate for carers, their families, and the children in their care.
FKCANT plays a pivotal role in providing advice, case management, training, assessments and systemic and individual advocacy services. We are committed to supporting carers from all backgrounds, cultures, religions, and relationship statuses across the NT.
About the Role
We are seeking a dynamic, values-driven person to join our team and contribute to FKCANT’s vision to empower carers through knowledge, support, and advocacy.
As a Carer Advocacy and Support Officer, you will:
- Work directly with foster and kinship carers to provide case management and support.
- Advocate for carers in their interactions with government and non-government agencies.
- Build and maintain strong community connections and develop new support services.
Position Details
· Based in Darwin, with some NT travel (including remote areas and overnight stays).
· Full-time, 12-month contract (37.5 hours per week) with strong potential for ongoing employment.
· SCHADS Level 3–4 ($72,832.50 – $90,382.50) + leave loading + superannuation.
· 6 weeks’ annual leave + paid Christmas shutdown leave.
· Salary Packaging: up to $15,900 tax-free plus an additional $2,650 for
meals/entertainment.
· Flexible working arrangements considered (subject to operational needs).
· Travel may require 4WD or commercial flights.
Key Responsibilities
· Provide proactive case management support to foster and kinship carers.
· Actively participate in carer recruitment activities.
