Overview
Two Arborist Technicians are sought by the Sunshine Coast Council's Parks and Gardens Branch to undertake all aspects of tree work for internal and external clients. You will assist the Arboricultural Services Leader as a member of the Arboricultural Services Team responsible for the care, management and operation of public open space and recreational areas. The role has a strong safety focus with operation of various plant, machinery and tools, and requires a passion for environmental issues in our coastal and hinterland environment. A primary focus is the safe operation of a wood chipper and truck, as well as removal and disposal of debris and green waste.
Responsibilities
* Undertake all aspects of tree work for internal and external clients.
* Assist the Arboricultural Services Leader and work as part of the Arboricultural Services Team.
* Operate plants, machinery and tools safely, with a focus on safety and environmental stewardship.
* Safely operate a wood chipper and truck; remove and dispose of debris and green waste.
* Coordinate maintenance records including run sheets, costing details and timesheets.
* Engage in ongoing learning and development through training on policies, practices, procedures and legislative requirements.
Qualifications & Skills
* Experience in an arboricultural role, ideally within a local government environment.
* Comprehensive knowledge of materials, plant and equipment used in street and neighbour park tree maintenance.
* Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and ability to work with internal and external customers.
* Strong time management, ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and self-organise workloads.
* Various qualifications, licences and tickets are required (refer to the position profile).
* Physical agility and fitness suitable for labouring, heavy lifting and bending; may require a pre-employment medical assessment.
