Project Design Engineer (Solar and BESS)

The role
The Project Design Engineer is responsible for the technical performance of solar PV rooftop and ground mount projects assigned to them. You will achieve this by providing technical design services that assist both Sales and Project Managers in the delivery of solar and battery solutions to market.
This is a hands‐on engineering role at the heart of project delivery, where strong design fundamentals and a HSSE‐first mindset directly shape the quality of the solutions taken to market. Offered as a 6-month contract.
What you'll do
* Design assigned projects on time and produce detailed solution designs for battery and solar implementation
* Draw PV layouts, determine string configurations, draw Single Line Diagrams, and perform generation analysis using PVsyst, Homer or Helioscope
* Perform cable calculations (voltage drop and voltage rise) and mechanical design on the selected mounting solution
* Determine panel and inverter technology in close coordination with the Project Manager
* Create the electrical, mount and label Bill of Material
* Submit grid connection applications and support structural certification and detailed technical design
* Take part in technical assessment of vendor equipment, including FAT
* Compile and manage Job Orders (Detailed Design, Design Inspection checklist, Testing procedure, Commissioning Sheets, ITPs) with installers, and lead communications so jobs are built to design and spec
* Follow up and support the installer throughout the installation and commissioning process
* Ensure project outputs are delivered on time, within budget and to a high technical and HSSE standard
Solutions Development
* Develop high level designs for bidding and quoting purposes
* Provide expert technical support to the sales team throughout the sales process
* Perform peer reviews on designs completed within the team
* Suggest and make process and product improvements that help maintain a market-leading position
* Assess the Cost of Poor Quality per project and recommend corrective action from a design perspective
* Build strategic relationships with key technology partners and OEMs that maximise the ability to secure targeted opportunities
What you'll bring
* A minimum of three years' experience in the delivery of solar PV rooftop and ground mount projects, including high voltage projects, preferably within the energy, construction or services industry
* Experience with HSSE, risk management and contract management
* A strong network of key stakeholders within the solar sector
* A solid understanding of energy use and energy markets in Australia
* Excellent time management and organisation skills, clear and articulate communication, strong problem‐solving, high initiative and a genuine team‐player approach
* Willingness to travel
Qualifications and licences
* CEC accreditation for solar design of grid and off‐grid systems and install
* CEC accreditation for Grid‐connect Battery Storage design and install
* Proficiency across PowerCAD, CableCalc, PVsyst, Helioscope, PVSell (Open Solar), AutoCAD, Proteus, Microsoft Office and PLC programming
