About Hockey Queensland
Hockey Queensland is the peak body for hockey in the state, responsible for participation, performance, and pathway programs, including Brisbane Blaze (Hockey One League), state championships, talent development, coaching and umpiring education, and community programs such as Hockey 5s and Hookin2Hockey. With a multidisciplinary team and strong partnerships with Hockey Australia, Queensland Academy of Sport, government, schools, and affiliated associations, the organisation plays a pivotal role in shaping the direction and success of the sport.
The Role
Reporting to the Board, the CEO will provide strategic leadership and executive management across all aspects of Hockey Queensland's operations, culture, and performance. The role combines high-level strategy and stakeholder engagement with hands-on leadership of people, programs, facilities, and finances, ensuring the organisation is sustainable, well-governed, and positioned for long-term growth.
Key areas of responsibility include:
* Leading the development and execution of the strategic plan and annual business plans.
* Driving revenue growth through sponsorship, commercial partnerships, and funding opportunities.
* Overseeing operational delivery across competitions, pathways, education, and participation initiatives.
* Strengthening governance, risk management, and compliance frameworks, including integrity and safeguarding.
* Responsible for leading the way in securing Brisbane 2032 and legacy facilities.
* Building a high-performance, values-driven culture with an engaged and capable senior leadership team.
Key KPIs and Outcomes
Success in this role will be measured against clear, agreed performance indicators across strategy, growth, performance, and culture, including:
* Strategic and financial performance
* Participation, pathways, and programs
* Governance, risk, and stakeholder engagement
* People, culture, and organisational capability
These KPIs will be refined and agreed between the CEO and Board in line with the strategic plan and annual priorities.
Experience and Background Required
The CEO will be an accomplished senior executive with substantial experience leading complex organisations and delivering strategic and commercial results.
Essential experience:
* Demonstrated success in a CEO or a senior executive leadership role, ideally within sport, member-based, not-for-profit, government, or similar complex environments.
* Proven track record in developing and executing organisational strategy, including translating strategic plans into executable business plans and measurable outcomes.
* Strong financial and commercial acumen, with hands-on experience managing budgets, driving revenue growth, and negotiating sponsorships or partnerships.
* Experience working with or reporting to a Board, including understanding of governance, risk, and compliance in an Australian context.
* Deep experience in stakeholder engagement, managing relationships with government, partners, members, and community stakeholders.
Highly regarded:
* Background in sports administration, high-performance or pathways programs, or participation and community sport.
* Familiarity with Australian sport governance and funding models, and with Hockey Australia frameworks and performance objectives.
* Experience leading organisations through growth, change, or digital and systems improvements.
* Connection to hockey or broader sporting networks in Queensland, or a clear passion for community and high-performance sport.
