About Us

Anyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation (AHAC) is a multi-disciplinary organisation that provides primary health care services to the Aboriginal people of Tennant Creek and the surrounding Barkly region, dedicated to closing the gap in Aboriginal health within remote Australia.

Anyinginyi consists of four sections – Health Services, Business Services, Public Health Unit and Piliyintinji-Ki Stronger Families – allowing a holistic approach to health and prioritising clients' physical and emotional wellbeing.

The mission is to deliver high‐quality holistic primary health care services featuring prevention and treatment in a culturally responsive way in the Barkly region.

About the Role

The Trauma Informed Care Practitioner will deliver high‐quality, trauma‐responsive support to children, families, and communities. The role ensures all interactions, environments, and service processes are grounded in safety, trust, choice, collaboration, empowerment, and cultural humility, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to reduce re‐traumatisation, promote healing, and strengthen wellbeing outcomes. The secondary aim is to embed Culturally Responsive Trauma Informed Care (CRTIC) within all levels of the organisation.

Responsibilities

Direct Practice

* Conduct trauma‐informed assessments to identify needs, strengths, risks, and trauma impacts.
* Create safe, predictable, and empowering environments for clients, families, and staff.
* Integrate referral pathways to ensure children and families receive holistic and coordinated care.

Collaboration & Service Integration

* Work closely with internal and external stakeholders including clinicians, caseworkers, educators, health agencies, legal, cultural advisors, and community partners.
* Participate in case reviews, multidisciplinary meetings, and coordinated care planning.
* Advocate for trauma‐informed approaches across systems and services.

Training, Education & Capacity Building

* Deliver or contribute to trauma‐informed care training for staff, volunteers, or community groups.
* Support teams to embed trauma‐responsive practices into everyday operations.
* Provide reflective practice support or debriefing where appropriate.

Documentation & Compliance

* Maintain accurate, confidential, and timely case notes and records.
* Collaborate with team members and external consultants to develop and finalise training resources and program protocols.
* Contribute to developing the clinical relevance of program materials for the primary health care setting.

Cultural Safety & Inclusion

* Apply culturally responsive and inclusive practice, recognising the impacts of intergenerational trauma.
* Work respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, and other groups disproportionately affected by trauma.

About You

Tertiary qualified with relevant registrations and qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, Mental Health, Community Services, Social Work, or Occupational Therapy. A postgraduate training or certification in trauma‐informed practice, somatic therapy, or therapeutic modalities is required. Experience in crisis intervention, mental health, family violence, child protection, or community development and knowledge of culturally specific healing frameworks, especially Aboriginal healing approaches, is essential. Prior experience delivering primary health care services within an Aboriginal community is highly regarded but not mandatory.

Pre‐Requisites & Conditions

* A National Police Clearance and an NT Working with Children's Ochre Card are required before commencing the role.
* All employees of Anyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID‐19.

Additional Information
