Greater Shepparton City Council, situated in the heart of the Goulburn Valley, is the fifth largest provincial centre in Victoria and has a well-developed economy due to its strong agricultural and irrigation base, with major industries related to food processing, manufacturing, transport and health care. The Goulburn Valley is often referred to as 'The Food Bowl of Australia' as around 25% of the total value of Victoria's agricultural production is generated in this area.

ABOUT THE ROLE
Do you enjoy working outdoors? Are you looking for a hands-on role? Make a positive contribution to the Greater Shepparton community by working on our roads, bridges, and line marking to ensure they're safe and functional for everyone. If you are a self-motivated and reliable, you could play a key role in maintaining Council's road and infrastructure assets.
Key responsibilities include:
* Maintenance of Council's roads and line marking assets.
* Ensure work complies with Councils Road Management Plan and other infrastructure maintenance service levels.
* Pre-operation inspections and routine maintenance of plant and equipment.
* Complete allocated work to an appropriate standard and procedure.
* Traffic Management.
* Safe operation and maintenance of Council tools and equipment.
* Emergency response to events such as storms may be required.

ABOUT YOU - To be successful for this role you are/require:
* Reliable, have a great attitude and good attention to detail.
* Ability to communicate effectively with your team and the community.
* Relevant experience and sound knowledge of the operation of relevant plant, machinery and equipment utilised in road maintenance activities.
* An understanding of road maintenance principals.
* Civil related plant and equipment qualification and/or competencies (or willing to obtain).
* Physically capable to carry out manual labouring tasks.
* Ability to understand and follow OH&S policies and procedures.
* Current Drivers Licence.
* Current Medium or Heavy Vehicle licence.

This position may work with, or around, Crystalline Silica. It is a requirement of the role to read and understand information relating to Silica:
1. What is Crystalline Silica?
Crystalline silica is the crystalline form of silicon dioxide, or silica, a naturally occurring mineral that forms a major component of most rocks.
The most common type of crystalline silica is quartz, which is found in sand, stone and granite.
2. What are the Health Risks?
Respirable crystalline silica can be harmful when it becomes airborne and is inhaled. Exposure to high concentrations over a short period of time, or low to medium concentrations over a long period of time can lead to serious diseases, including:
o silicosis
o lung cancer
o kidney disease
o autoimmune disease
3. To mitigate the risk, GSCC will provide to all employees:
o Health monitoring to be conducted on entry and exit of employment
o Correct PPE supplied to all employees
o Training, Education and Information
