Overview

Applicants from the previous process IPS/SS975421 who were assessed as suitable are not required to reapply. We are seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistant for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

Joseph Banks Secondary College (SC) is an Independent Public School in the suburb of Banksia Grove, approximately 40 kilometres from the Perth Central Business District. The Role

As an Education Assistant – Special Needs you will ideally be responsible for assisting in the delivery of planned education programs and supporting students to meet their educational outcomes. This will include managing small groups of students under the direction of the teacher that will help in the development of young minds and support the general health and wellbeing of students. You will ideally work in a collaborative environment as para professionals beside teachers to support students and families. Experience in working with students of differing needs, including those with autism spectrum disorder, mental health, medical health and behavioural special needs would be highly desirable.

The suitable applicants should ideally be friendly, approachable, flexible, and have a genuine interest in supporting students with educational needs, and pastoral care support. Suitable applicants will ideally be caring, proactive, and responsive, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, as well as possess good written and oral communication skills to enable the implementation of individual or small group-based programs. The suitable applicants will ideally work alongside teachers to ensure the implementation of the school business plan and priorities using the agreed programs and strategies. The ability to work with small groups of students assisting them socially and academically is highly desirable.

Eligibility

To work with us, you must:

* be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
* obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start; and
* consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before you start.
