We're a totally free app including recipe discovery, meal planning and grocery shopping where you can browse 3,500+ meals or save your favourites from anywhere on the web. Go from "what's for dinner?" to a completed shop in minutes - comparing prices, building lists, and checking out with your preferred supermarket.

Behind the scenes, we're creating something food brands have never had: direct access to the entire shopping journey. From meal inspiration to purchase, we give FMCG companies real-time insights into how shoppers discover, select, and buy their products - data supermarkets can't provide.

It's consumer experience meets brand intelligence. We're making grocery shopping effortless for people while giving brands a live view into the kitchens and carts of real shoppers.

We're 20 people across NZ and Sydney, moving fast with big ambitions. Revenue comes from brands who pay for access to our platform and insights - which means we can keep the app completely free for consumers. We need great people to help us scale as we grow.

About the Role

As our Marketing Manager, you have wide ranging remit with a very clear focus: own the systems that drive user and customer growth, engagement, and retention at Appetise.

Reporting to our Head of Marketing, this is a hands-on, high-impact role where you'll fuel and maintain the marketing engine across B2B and B2C. You're building, maintaining and optimising the systems that turn viewers into clicks, traffic into leads, signups into engaged users.

You'll manage our marketing systems and tools, work with our partners, and ensure we're measuring what matters. You're the operational backbone that keeps our marketing machine running while our Content Creator fills the pipes with killer content across B2B and B2C audiences.

You'll work closely with Marketing, Sales, CS, Product, and our agency partners to execute campaigns, optimise conversion funnels, drive lifecycle engagement, measure relentlessly and deliver the insights that inform our strategy. Whether it's setting up an automated email flow, optimising our SEO strategy, helping build out campaigns or reporting dashboards for a board deck, you're the kind of person who loves building systems, identifies the signal in the ambiguity, and gets energised by ticking off the to-do list.

Key Responsibilities

1. Own Lifecycle Marketing (30%)

* Build and optimise email and push notification campaigns that drive activation, engagement, and retention.

* Design and execute automated lifecycle flows across onboarding, engagement, re-engagement, and win-back journeys.

* Use segmentation and personalisation to deliver the right message at the right time.

* Own key retention metrics including activation rate, retention curves, and churn, and know when they're trending in the wrong direction.

* Comfortable supporting systems across B2B and B2C where and when required

2. Manage Marketing Operations & Tools (25%)

* Own our marketing stack (CRM, email platforms, analytics tools, automation) and ensure everything runs smoothly.

* Build dashboards and reporting to track performance across all channels and share insights with the team.

* Handle marketing ops, admin, and the systems that keep our marketing engine running efficiently.

* Support product marketing for new consumer features, working with Product to drive adoption and engagement.

3. Support Performance Marketing & Agency (20%)

* Work with our performance marketing agency to guide strategy, provide creative direction, and review campaign performance.

* Feed winning content and messaging insights from our Content Creator into paid campaigns.

* Track and improve paid performance metrics including CAC, ROAS, and conversion rates.

* Support the transition to in-house paid marketing as we scale (potential future ownership depending on experience and interest).

* Comfortable pivoting from performance and paid for B2B and B2C where and when required

4. Drive SEO, ASO & Organic Growth (15%)

* Own foundational SEO and ASO strategy to improve organic discoverability across web and app stores.

* Identify opportunities, optimise pages, and execute initiatives that drive incremental organic growth.

* Collaborate with our Content Creator to align organic content with SEO strategy.

5. Execute Across Marketing Priorities (10%)

* Run competitor research and stay sharp on market trends and best practices.

* Nurture our user community, responding to feedback and building relationships with engaged users.

* Jump in wherever marketing needs support, you're comfortable wearing multiple hats and solving problems as they arise.

Who You Are

* Scrappy generalist – 3-5yrs experience in tech, startups, SaaS or high growth, high performance marketing teams, seeking to maximise acquisition, engagement and lifetime value. You're strong in 1-2 areas (ideally lifecycle or performance) but willing to learn and own the rest.

* Systems-builder – You love setting up processes, tools, and automations that make marketing run smoothly and scale efficiently.

* Operationally excellent – You're organised, detail-oriented, and thrive on ticking things off the list and getting stuff done.

* Data-informed – You track metrics like activation, retention, CAC, ROAS, and conversion rates, and use data to inform decisions and spot opportunities.

* Tool-savvy – You're comfortable with marketing platforms (Meta, Google, HubSpot, Klaviyo, Braze, Appsflyer, Mailchimp, Iterable, or similar), analytics tools, and learning new systems quickly.

* Hungry and curious – You want to learn, grow, and take on more responsibility as the company scales. You're building your career, not just doing a job.

* Cross-functional collaborator – You work seamlessly with Product, Sales, and external agencies to get things done.

* Startup-ready – You thrive in fast-paced, high-ambiguity environments where priorities shift and you need to figure things out as you go.

* Outcome-focused – You don't just execute tasks, you own outcomes and care about moving the needle on business metrics.

Why This Role Matters

Marketing at Appetise is about owning the pipes and systems that drive sustainable growth. We have a Content Creator filling those pipes with killer content, but we need someone to build, optimise, and run the infrastructure that turns attention into activation, engagement, and retention.

With the right person in this role, we'll turn more signups into active users, scale our marketing operations efficiently, and build a growth engine that powers Appetise as we expand globally. When engagement is solved and we're ready to scale acquisition, this role has the potential to grow into a growth marketing lead role owning the full funnel.

The salary range for this role is $105,000 - $125,000
