to lead our people strategy, build strong teams, and help shape a connected, high-performing culture across our national network.
About the Role
The
HR & Recruitment Manager
plays a pivotal role in supporting and growing the Happy Travels team across retail stores, head office, and our call centre.
This is a hands-on, people-first role where you'll partner closely with leaders and team members to manage the full employee lifecycle, from attraction and recruitment through to development, engagement, and performance. You'll bring structure, clarity, and consistency to our HR practices while keeping things human, approachable, and aligned with our values.
With teams spread across multiple locations, this role is key to creating strong communication, consistent people processes, and a culture where everyone feels supported, motivated, and excited to be part of the journey.
Key Responsibilities
Talent Acquisition & Recruitment
* Lead end-to-end recruitment for retail, head office, and call centre roles
* Build and strengthen Happy Travels' employer brand to attract top talent
* Partner with leaders to define role requirements, write job ads, and conduct interviews
* Manage candidate experience from first contact through to offer and onboarding
* Oversee pre-employment checks, contracts, and onboarding processes
* Continuously improve recruitment systems to support business growth
* Manage and develop onboarding courses and training
People Operations & Employee Lifecycle
* Manage onboarding, probation, performance reviews, and offboarding processes
* Provide coaching and support to leaders on performance management and employee development
* Ensure HR documentation, contracts, and policies are current and compliant
* Maintain accurate employee records and HR systems
* Manage annual leave requests and calendars
* Gather and manage feedback about employment to help shape business improvement
Workplace Relations & Compliance
* Provide trusted advice on Fair Work, awards, employment legislation, and best practice
* Support and guide leaders through performance issues, grievances, and disciplinary processes
* Ensure compliance across a multi-site retail and contact centre environment
* Stay up to date with changes in employment law and apply them practically
Learning, Development & Engagement
* Support leaders in building capable, confident teams through coaching and development
* Identify training needs across retail and head office teams
* Contribute to leadership development and succession planning
* Support initiatives that improve engagement, retention, and team connection
Culture & Team Connection
* Help bring Happy Travels' values to life across all teams
* Support internal communications, team meetings, and people initiatives
* Create meaningful moments of connection that strengthen culture across locations
* Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive workplace environment
About You
You're a confident, approachable HR professional who thrives in a fast-paced, people-focused business.
You'll bring:
* 3+ years' experience in a generalist HR or HR & recruitment leadership role
* Strong knowledge of Australian employment law and modern awards
* Are an Australian citizen or Permanent resident
* Proven experience recruiting across high-volume or multi-site environments (retail or call centre experience highly regarded)
* A practical, solutions-focused approach with strong coaching skills
* Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to juggle competing priorities
* A genuine passion for people, culture, and creating great workplace
* Experience using Employment Hero software highly desirable
