About the Role
Reporting to the Lead Studies Rail Decarbonisation within the Operational Decarbonisation group, this unique role will provide leadership to multi‑disciplinary teams and contribute to the ultimate delivery of the Rail Decarbonisation Project.
Key Responsibilities
* Delivery of specific elements of the Minerals Australia Operational Decarbonisation portfolio including tracking, de‑risking and optimisation/sequencing of the decarbonisation journey for the most economic outcome.
* Owning and project managing specific elements of the BHP Decarbonisation Roadmap to ensure that Australia's operations meet their emission target reductions, including Power solutions and Diesel Displacement.
* Maintaining critical relationships to deliver BHP key requirements.
* Leading the engineering management strategy for Rail Decarbonisation study phases and providing technical knowledge in the studies and development phase of the project.
* Defining project and study objectives and translating them into scopes of work for Engineering Service Providers (ESPs) and/or other parties.
* Reviewing the quality of all engineering deliverables aligned to the Project / Study phase requirements and monitoring and managing project performance to deliver projects in line with safety standards, requirements, budget, schedule and scope.
* Managing interfaces between Rail Decarbonisation, Power West Decarbonisation and other workstreams, identifying and assessing risks and supporting risk‑informed decisions using BHP's risk management framework.
About You
* Strong safety leadership skills and history of quality field leadership participation.
* Knowledge in lean management and understanding of early phase project design, development and investment processes.
* Degree qualifications in science, technology, engineering or an aligned discipline; qualification and/or exposure to Electrical or renewables projects.
* Understanding of the Rail industry, locomotives and rail systems; knowledge of project study requirements across all stages of the project lifecycle.
* Experience in delivery of complex solutions and confidence influencing cross‑functional, cross‑geography collaborative teams not directly in reporting lines.
* Demonstrated technical and commercial acumen, advanced problem solving and strategic resolution capabilities.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to present and discuss project and technical information in a way that establishes rapport, persuades others, and gains understanding.
* Willingness to roll up sleeves and complete tasks personally, as required, while balancing effective delegation with direct contribution where appropriate.
