About the Role
The NDIS Support Connector plays an important role in supporting Aboriginal people who live with disabilities, their families, and carers to understand and engage with the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
* Help the community learn about the NDIS by engaging with community, organising forums and events, and sharing culturally appropriate information.
* Support participants and families with paperwork, evidence gathering, and attending appointments.
* Assist people to build, update, and review their NDIS plans, making sure services are accessible and culturally appropriate.
* Act as a link between participants, the NDIS, and service providers to improve disability supports in remote communities.
* Keep accurate records, report on outcomes, and contribute to ongoing improvements in service delivery.
This role requires someone proactive, culturally responsive, and deeply aligned with our mission to support First Nations health outcomes.
Note: The internal title for this position is Remote Community Connector.
About You
We are looking for candidates with:
* Experience working in community services or disability support.
* Knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, with the ability to build respectful relationships.
* Familiarity with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services and local health providers.
* Clear and confident communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive issues respectfully.
* Understanding of the challenges faced by people living with disability and willingness to learn about the NDIS. An understanding of NDIS is highly desirable.
* Ability or willingness to connect people with the right services through negotiation and networking.
* Good organisational skills with the ability to manage time, meet deadlines, and keep accurate records.
* Qualifications in community services, disability support, or a related field is highly desirable.
* Current drivers licence.
