Key Optics Role
We are seeking an experienced optics professional to join our team in Melbourne, Australia.
This role is critical to sustaining and advancing spectroscopic instrumentation and manufacturing capabilities. You will work closely with production teams and lead optics insourcing initiatives, supporting the development, maintenance, and troubleshooting of optical systems and test infrastructure.
You'll collaborate with R&D engineers across disciplines to ensure manufacturability and performance of new and existing products.
Responsibilities:
* Maintain and improve optical systems for production operations
* Lead optics insourcing projects to enhance local manufacturing capabilities
* Provide hands-on engineering support during equipment downtime
* Collaborate with mechanical, electronic, software, and firmware engineers on integrated optical solutions
* Contribute to NPI projects including optics manufacturing processes, fixture design, and prototyping
* Maintain and develop databases for optical performance and test data
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's or higher degree in Physics, Optics, or Engineering
* 10+ years of experience in optical engineering, preferably in a production or manufacturing environment
* Strong understanding of spectroscopic techniques and applications
* Experience with optical metrology, optomechanics, and optical design tools (e.g., ray tracing, simulation, CAD)
* Familiarity with laser physics, light scattering, polarization, and detection schemes
* Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB, ANSYS, COMSOL)
* Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
