Join to apply for the Technical Officer role at University of Newcastle.

We are seeking a dedicated Technical Officer (Anatomy) to provide specialised technical services that support the day-to-day operations of our Anatomy teaching laboratories at Callaghan. You will also play a vital role in supporting the Technical Team Leader (Anatomy) with the University’s Body Donor Program, which serves both the Callaghan and Gosford campuses.

The Role

- Contribute to the preparation, delivery, and assessment support of anatomy classes and laboratory examinations.
- Instruct students on health, safety, and ethical issues associated with human anatomical resources.
- Monitor student wellbeing during classes, reporting and assisting with incidents as required.
- Support the operation of the Body Donor Program, maintaining accurate records, adhering to regulations, and liaising with donors and their families with professionalism and compassion.
- Assist with maintaining anatomical resources and laboratory equipment to meet regulatory and safety requirements.
- Provide administrative support related to teaching and the Body Donor Program, including ordering consumables, maintaining records, and preparing documentation for audits and inspections.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by reviewing Standard Operating Procedures, assisting with safety reviews, and training colleagues where needed.

You Will Bring

- Experience in providing technical support in a laboratory or teaching environment (anatomy or health sciences preferred).
- Robust organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- A compassionate and professional approach to working with donors and their families.
- Knowledge of health and safety standards in laboratory environments, with the ability to apply them in practice.

The School

The School of Biomedical Sciences & Pharmacy is one of the University’s most research-intensive schools and home to one of the most diverse teaching portfolios. Our staff deliver programs across anatomy, biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology, microbiology, immunology, pharmacy and exercise and sport science. Our researchers are internationally recognised, applying cutting-edge technology and disease models across themes such as Immunology, Nutrition, Exercise and Cardiovascular Disease, Neuroscience, Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science, and Reproductive Science. This full-time position is a continuing role at a HEW 5 Higher Education Level located at Callaghan Campus.

- The remuneration for this position is from $80,972 - $93,929 p.a. + superannuation and is commensurate with skills and experience

Your Application Must Include

- A statement addressing the Essential Criteria listed below demonstrating your qualifications and experience with examples.
- A degree or extensive relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- Experience in handling anatomical cadaveric specimens and the requirements surrounding their storage or experience in preparing science related teaching laboratory sessions with a strong interest and/or background in anatomy, science or biology.
- Good organisational and time management skills and ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision and as part of a team
- The ability to communicate well with academic and professional staff, students and body donor families
- Demonstrated experience in taking ownership and driving innovation, process improvement and contributing to overall corporate operations.
- Willingness to work flexible hours when required.
- Knowledge of, and experience in, adhering to workplace policies and procedures in the areas of work health safety, mental health wellbeing, equity, diversity and promoting a respectful workplace culture.

Desirable Criteria

Experience in dealing with the Anatomy Act and Human Tissue, Anatomy and Disposal of Bodies legislation as it relates to tertiary teaching Anatomy laboratories.
