The Role of Retail Cashier
Retail cashiers play a vital role in bringing professionalism and friendliness to ensure transactions at point of sale run smoothly and efficiently.
This role often serves as the first point of contact for customers (and donors) when entering the store or seeking assistance whilst shopping.
The key responsibility of a retail cashier is to ensure customers leave the store with a lasting positive impression of their shopping experience.
Key Responsibilities:
* Customer Service – Provide a friendly and engaging personality to warmly greet all customers and guide them through the store areas.
* Provide guidance and information on any specials, as well as assistance to those donating items and community members referred to the store for material aid support.
* Point of Sale – Assist with sales transactions, answering customer inquiries in-store and over the phone.
* Displays and Merchandising – Ensure items in the point of sale area are displayed attractively and safely, with clear thoroughfares.
Qualifications and Skills:
Desirable qualifications include experience in retail point of sale systems and customer service. However, all volunteers are supported with on-the-job training.
Background Checks:
Background checks form an essential part of our commitment to being a safe organization.
In cases where an applicant has disclosable history, a fair assessment and risk management approach will be applied.
Personal information is handled in accordance with our privacy and confidentiality policies.
Requirements for this Role:
As this role involves handling money, a Police Check is required.
Time commitments will be agreed upon with the manager.
Development Opportunities:
This role provides opportunities for volunteers to develop skills and build experience in retail practices and dealing with customers.
