Greater Shepparton City Council, situated in the heart of the Goulburn Valley, is the fourth largest provincial centre in Victoria and has a well-developed economy due to its strong agricultural and irrigation base, with major industries related to food processing, manufacturing and transport. The Goulburn Valley is often referred to as 'The Food Bowl of Australia' as around 25% of the total value of Victoria's agricultural production is generated in this area.
Greater Shepparton has a population of approximately 65,000, and an expenditure budget in excess of $118 million. The population is culturally diverse with 9.9% of residents being born overseas. Greater Shepparton City Council's Finance and Rates department is seeking a fulltime experienced finance professional to join our Financial Analysis and Planning Team
Are you looking for a new challenge in the world of Local Government? Do you enjoy building relationships and learning about a wide range of business units to support others in achieving quality financial reporting? We are seeking an experienced Management Accountant, who will not only play a key part in our Finance Business Partner framework, but who will also be a key driver of our statutory reporting and budgeting processes.
This position plays a key role in decision making by analysing data and providing reports with recommendations, working collaboratively with Council staff and other relevant stakeholders to facilitate strong financial management practices, including budget management and development.
Key responsibilities include:
* Facilitating Council's annual budgeting processes, as well as monthly and quarterly variance reporting
* Develop strong working relationships with Responsible Managers/Budget Officers in respect of Business Partnering and provision of value adding financial services to staff
* Undertake data analysis of financial information to support financial business performance, in conjunction with non-financial information, to identify trends and assist in decision making
* Assist in the preparation of Long Term Financial Planning and annual Financial Reporting
The successful applicant will have:
* Tertiary qualifications in accounting, with membership of a recognised Australian professional accounting body highly regarded
* Experience in related roles
* Highly developed communication skills
* Sound understanding of financial management, analysis and planning
* Demonstrated ability to work to deadlines maintaining a high level of attention to detail
* Ability to understand their customers' needs and positively influence change
