Join a key regulatory agency supporting financial integrity and compliance
Our client is seeking a detail‐oriented and proactive Financial Accountant (Level 5) to support the delivery of high‐quality financial reporting, statutory compliance, and financial operations. In this role, you will work closely with – and be supervised by – the Principal Financial Accountant and Principal Policy Consultant, assisting with business‐as‐usual financial activities and contributing to process improvements. This is an excellent opportunity for an emerging or established financial professional looking to deepen their experience in government financial management, statutory reporting, and policy compliance.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist with the preparation of financial statements in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards, the Financial Management Act 2006, and Treasurer's Instructions.
* Support quarterly whole‐of‐government submissions to the Department of Treasury.
* Prepare monthly financial statements, cost recovery calculations, variance analyses, and Commission reports.
* Maintain the accuracy and integrity of financial data, including month‐end accruals, adjustments, and general ledger reconciliations.
Policy, Governance & Audit Support
* Assist with development and updates of financial policy to ensure compliance with relevant standards and legislation.
* Liaise with internal and external auditors, providing information and support as required.
Financial Operations
* Support asset management activities, including additions, disposals, stocktake coordination, depreciation, and reconciliations.
* Assist with purchasing card acquittals, invoicing arrangements, and procurement enquiries.
* Prepare and coordinate Business Activity Statements (BAS) for submission to the Australian Taxation Office.
* Provide financial assistance and advice to divisional staff as necessary.
Budgeting & Treasury Engagement
* Assist with budget preparation, Section 40 estimates, and internal budgeting processes.
* Liaise with external authorities.
Project & Process Improvement
* Contribute to the project management of finance consulting projects and ongoing process improvements.
Required Skills & Experience
* CA or CPA accreditation (or currently working toward completion).
* Strong knowledge of financial accounting principles and statutory compliance requirements.
* High attention to detail, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities.
* Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
* Ideally the candidate has been involved in audit process and year end process in WA Gov agency in previous employment.
