Role Description
This part-time hybrid role as Financial Controller is based in Sydney, NSW, with the flexibility to work remotely. The Financial Controller will oversee the preparation and analysis of financial statements, manage financial reporting, ensure compliance with accounting standards, and maintain financial records. Day-to-day, the role includes budget monitoring, financial planning, and providing strategic insights to improve financial performance. The role also involves collaborating with the executive team to support the company's financial health and growth.
Key Responsibilities
* Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations
* Maintain and optimise financial processes in Xero, including chart of accounts, tracking categories, and automated workflows
* Prepare monthly management reports, variance analysis, and cashflow forecasts
* Ensure compliance with Australian accounting standards, ATO requirements, BAS/IAS, and statutory obligations
* Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, and tax advisors
* Develop financial policies, controls, and reporting structures
* Assist in budgeting and long-term financial planning
* Support inventory, POS integrations, and revenue reporting from court bookings and memberships
* Provide financial insights to management to aid operational and strategic decisions
Skills and experience
* Proven experience as a Financial Controller, Senior Accountant, or similar role
* with Xero
* Solid understanding of Australian accounting practices, GST/BAS, and payroll compliance
* Experience in multi-site operations or hospitality/recreation industries is highly desirable
* Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
* Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
* Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
* CPA/CA qualification preferred but not essential
