Administration Officer, Aboriginal Heritage Darwin | Full time | 2‑year contract $75,000 p.a. It is a genuine occupational requirement that applicants: Identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person Are of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent Are accepted as such by their community (As defined under the Anti‑Discrimination Act 1996 (NT) ) Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT) is seeking an Administration Officer to join our Aboriginal Heritage team — a role suited to someone who is steady under pressure, thinks ahead, and understands that the details matter, especially when the work carries deep cultural, historical and community significance. This position supports the Head of Aboriginal Heritage and plays a central role in the coordination, care and governance of Aboriginal cultural heritage, including repatriation and Ancestral Remains. The work is meaningful, sometimes complex, and always important. About the role As Administration Officer, Aboriginal Heritage, you will be the trusted backbone of the team. You will support the Head of Aboriginal Heritage, coordinate key processes, and ensure the smooth running of advisory groups and working groups, including: Indigenous Cultural Advisory Authority (ICAA) Repatriation Working Group Internal Aboriginal Heritage working groups and committees across other departments. You will be relied upon to anticipate needs, manage competing priorities, track actions and deadlines, and ensure that culturally sensitive work is handled with care, accuracy and respect. What you’ll bring We are looking for someone who: Is calm, organised and proactive, even when juggling multiple priorities Thinks ahead and catches issues before they escalate Has strong local knowledge of Darwin and the Northern Territory, including remote communities Understands remote location protocols, cultural differences and community contexts Appreciates the gravity and importance of repatriation and Ancestral Remains work Can advocate internally to ensure Aboriginal Heritage priorities are understood and respected Takes their work seriously, while still being a supportive and approachable team member Key responsibilities Provide high‑level administrative and executive support to the Head of Aboriginal Heritage Coordinate diaries, travel, meetings and logistics for the Head of Aboriginal Heritage, ICAA and Repatriation Working Group members Produce, coordinate and track ICAA and Repatriation Working Group papers and correspondence Provide secretariat support including agendas, minutes, action tracking and follow‑up Manage sensitive, confidential material with professionalism and cultural awareness Be a welcoming and culturally respectful point of contact for Aboriginal Heritage visitors Support internal governance and compliance processes where required Work collaboratively across MAGNT to ensure Aboriginal Heritage business is well‑coordinated and prioritised What you’ll need Essential Demonstrated experience working with NT Aboriginal communities, including an understanding of remote community contexts Strong administrative and secretariat experience, including handling sensitive and confidential matters High‑level organisational skills with attention to detail and strong follow‑through Confidence using the Microsoft Office Suite and administrative systems Ability to communicate respectfully, clearly and in culturally appropriate ways Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams Understanding of cultural safety, WHS principles and professional conduct Desirable Experience working on Country with NT Aboriginal communities Experience in financial, reporting or records management systems A current Australian Driver’s Licence Full details of the role and requirements are contained in the attached Job Description.
