**About Your Role**

This position will work as part of the Oncology team in the Wagga Wagga, Griffith or Young. It involves working with various services including the LHD Health Services, the Riverina Cancer Care Centre, tertiary referral cancer centres in Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne, Community Health, GPs, Medical Specialists and other cancer service providers to increase access and ensure the effective coordination of care.

The treatment pathway for a person diagnosed with cancer is often complex and the Cancer Care Coordinator has an opportunity to improve the quality of treatment and of life for the cancer patient.

Funding for this position is provided by the Cancer Institute NSW for the purpose of establishing clear referral pathways with local GPs and service providers for cancer that will assist patients accessing cancer treatment and improve continuity of care both within and external to the Local Health District.

The Cancer Care Coordinator will demonstrate the ability to act as a professional role model, delivering a high-level capacity for patient advocacy while demonstrating the ability to provide effective clinical leadership and the ability to practice as an autonomous professional with the capacity to work within a multidisciplinary team environment.

Clinical Nurse Specialist Grade 2 (CNS2) are crucial members of the Murrumbidgee Local Health District Nursing and Midwifery Workforce. The CNS2 is responsible for the provision of high level patient centred, evidence-based clinical nursing care and is expected to embrace and lead a practice development philosophy in the delivery of that care.

The CNS encompasses the core criteria of the CNS1 with additional characteristics of; exercises extended autonomy of decision making and exercises professional knowledge and judgement in providing complex care requiring advanced clinical skills. This outcome is achieved through undertaking comprehensive nursing assessments, providing expert consultation and educational support to staff, patients and family in the designated area of clinical practice.

The CNS2 is responsible for evaluation and supervision in the provision of complex nursing care directed towards patients within the designated area of clinical practice.

The CNS2 will demonstrate the ability to act as a professional role model, delivering a high level capacity for patient advocacy and cost benefit practice while demonstrating the ability to act as a change agent, provide effective clinical leadership and the ability to practice as an autonomous professional with the capacity to work within a multidisciplinary team environment.
