Overview

Councillor Support Officer at City of Sydney

Full Time/Term Contract until 6 October 2028. This is a purpose‑led role in a dynamic political environment, supporting the office of the Labour Deputy Lord Mayor with evidence‑based advice, communications, collaboration and stakeholder engagement.


About The Role

This role places you in the heart of decision‑making in the City of Sydney, working in the office of Labor Deputy Lord Mayor, Zann Maxwell. You'll operate in a fast‑paced political setting, providing evidence‑based advice, creating communications and leading collaboration with stakeholders.


We Are Looking For Someone Who

* Has demonstrated experience in policy and/or research for government, not‑for‑profit or advocacy organisations, including policy notes, communications materials, and/or stakeholder correspondence.
* Has demonstrated experience engaging collaboratively with government, community organisations, progressive movements, and/or resident groups.
* Has strong skills across digital communications, including writing newsletters, EDMs, reports, social media content, video creation, and using graphic design tools for high‑quality visuals.
* Has demonstrated commitment to values underpinning a progressive Labor office—such as affordable housing, climate action, inclusive economic prosperity, and responsive local government.
* Understands the current political landscape, with a focus on local issues.

This role offers a rostered day off each month (a 19‑day month).

Pre‑employment requirements include a health declaration, medical assessment and criminal history check.
