Offer description

Purpose: To deliver Cancer Council NT's (CCNT) prevention and cancer screening programs and health promotion activities, aimed at reducing cancer in the NT.

Key responsibilities:

* To develop and implement innovative and evidence-based health promotion strategies and programs.

* To provide education to primary and secondary schools, community groups, corporates and health service providers about cancer and healthy lifestyle choices, e.g. SunSmart schools and workplaces, Bowel and Cervical Cancer screening.

* To maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, NT Government and non-government entities, local community groups and the wider community.

* To educate young people and schools on healthy lifestyle choices, including implementing schools' specific cancer prevention and health promotion programs e.g. Cancer Prevention education, SunSmart Program and Tobacco Vaping Education.

* To engage all forms of media, to promote CCNT health messages and the services and activities of CCNT, including social media, print, TV and Radio.

* To undertake special projects around public health and advocacy initiatives.

* To identify funding sources and assist preparation of submissions to access funding for CCNT programs.

* Participate in the nominated Cancer Council Australia Committee and ensure dissemination of information back to CCNT.

* Provide a monthly report to the CEO of prevention education activities.

Essential:

* Qualifications (Batchelor's degree) in Health Promotion, Education, or public health-related field.

* High level of communication skills both verbal and written, along with the ability to work unsupervised and with excellent time management skills.

* Sound stakeholder engagement, excellent verbal communication skills and demonstrated experience in public speaking.

* Demonstrated experience in presenting to small groups of people.

* Excellent report writing skills with the ability to write submissions, proposals, and evaluation reports. Current Northern Territory Driver's License (without restrictions).

* Current Ochre Card (Working with Children's Check NT).

* Advanced Microsoft Office skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, with demonstrated experience working with databases; and social media content.

* Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize work and perform daily tasks efficiently and within deadlines.

* A confident self-starter who demonstrates initiative and a solution-orientated approach, an ability to learn new skills and to work without supervision.

* Ability to work as a member of the team and to facilitate collaborative action.

Desirable

* A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a health promotion or education role.

* Demonstrated experience in public health and health promotion, including management, delivery and evaluation of health promotion programs.

* Demonstrated experience in grant writing, project management and acquittal reporting.

* Understanding of issues around cancer.

This role does include some evening and weekend work and there will be some intrastate and interstate travel. Employment is subject to completion of a Criminal History Check and all staff must be eligible to hold an Ochre Card. Cancer Council NT is a smokefree workplace and all workers are fully Covid vaccinated.
