As a receptionist working at Riverside Surgery you will be the first point of contact for the patients both on the phone and in the Practice.
You will be an integral part of the team, providing a wide range of reception and administrative duties whilst working closely with both the surgery team and external agencies.
Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for managing the practices appointment system, processing both telephone and in person requests and enquiries. You will answer incoming calls, directing patients to the appropriate services or clinicians.
The role will involve data entry including updating healthcare records, coding the clinical IT system, generating repeat prescriptions and registering new patients. The role also involves supporting the other administrative staff as well as the clinicians.

Job responsibilities
The following duties are the main responsibility of the receptionist however this list is not exhaustive and there may be times when you are asked to carry out other tasks depending on the current workload and staffing levels.
1. Processing incoming phone calls and dealing appropriately with patient queries and requests
2. Signposting patients to the most suitable service
3. Maintaining the practice booking system
4. Updating of patients health records including clinical filing and coding
5. Processing prescription requests
6. Maintain a tidy and organised reception area
7. Support other practice staff with general tasks and administrative duties
8. Complete the opening and closing of the Practice when required
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
* GCSE Maths and English (C or above)
Experience
* Experience of working with the general public
* Experience of working with the Emis system.
* Flexibility to work extra hours when required to cover holiday or staff absence.
* Ability to work under pressure.
* The ability to be empathetic in distressing and upsetting situations.
