What we have to offer: A supportive and team environmentA culture of respect and recognitionLearning and development opportunitiesSalary packaging optionsAccess to the Employee Assistance ProgramAbout the role Under the direction of the Early Childhood Education Director, the Catering Officer has the primary responsibility to prepare balanced and nutritional meals for children attending the Koori Kindermanna preschool in accordance with the hygiene standards of food handlers in NSW, and the National Education and Care Services Regulations 2011.
To prepare, cook and serve food in an industrial hygienic kitchen, maintaining food safety standards.
In consultation with the Director, prepare a nutritionally balanced weekly menu and liaise with the Director when changes to the menu are required.
Ensure all meals are free from allergens and accommodate special dietary requirements.
Work closely with the preschool staff to coordinate mealtimes and support educational themes with creative food presentations.
Work within allocated budgets and organise bulk food and weekly food orders.
To check the accuracy of food deliveries, report inaccuracies to suppliers, and to store food in an appropriate and safe manner according to regulations and safe food handling practices.
Monitor stock levels, order supplies, and manage the food budget.
Maintain a clean and organised kitchen and adhere to all work health and safety regulations.
Monitor temperature control checks for all meals, fridge and freezer.
Perform other duties as assigned and within scope of practice.
Essential Skills & Knowledge or Qualifications & Experience A NSW Food Safety Supervisors CertificatePrior experience planning menus and cooking meals based on recommended daily intakes for specific client groups e.g., children.Knowledge of child nutrition and dietary needs.Excellent cooking skills with a creative approach to meal planning.Strong organisational and time management abilities.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Understanding of the issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in today's society.Good written and verbal communication skills, specifically the ability to relate in a warm and sensitive manner to children.Desirable Skills & Knowledge or Qualifications & Experience A qualification such as a Cert III in Catering or Cookery would be highly desirable.How to Apply: Applications must include a resume and cover letter that addresses the key selection criteria.
