Role Overview
Western Autistic School is looking for an education support class employee to assist autistic students in grades Prep to Year 3. The role involves providing physical and emotional support, coordinating learning tasks, and collaborating with teachers and allied health professionals under school policy.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist students on an individual or group basis in specific learning areas.
* Assist students to communicate their needs.
* Provide basic physical and emotional care for students.
* Participate in team meetings.
* Assist with the supervision of pupils in playgrounds, camps, excursions, sporting activities, therapy activities and life skills sessions.
* Assist in the preparation of student resources and equipment set up.
* Set up and put away equipment and materials in support of teaching programs.
* Observe students and alert the teacher to needs.
* Monitor and evaluate programs and student involvement and achievement.
* Assist students with the preparation and service of meals.
* Maintain work areas, equipment, materials and appliances in a clean condition.
* Assist with the preparation of equipment and purchasing of materials and supplies as required.
Skill Criteria (SC)
* SC1. Demonstrated capacity to perform duties consistent with guidelines and frameworks, including coordinating and supporting others in specific work functions.
* SC2.
o Provide physical care and emotional support for autistic students.
o Facilitate student engagement with play and learning tasks/programs directed by teachers.
o Implement positive behaviour support strategies within the classroom, playground, and other school environments.
* SC3. Possess the technical knowledge and expertise relevant to the position.
* SC4. Demonstrated capacity to work cooperatively with leaders, teachers, education support staff, students, and parents.
* SC5. Commitment to professional learning and growth for both self and others.
