Senior Urban Design Officer

At the NSW Department of Education, we educate and inspire lifelong learners – from early childhood, through schooling to vocational education and training.

About the role

Provide a design management service to SINSW that is efficient, cost effective, adds value to the development of sound infrastructure planning and meets organisational, legislative and educational requirements.

School Infrastructure (SI) is seeking a Senior Urban Design Officer to strengthen early-stage master planning and design advisory capability, across major school infrastructure projects. The role sits within the Design & Technical Standards team and provides specialist input at feasibility and concept stages to improve project definition, coordination, and design quality prior to procurement.

You will bring landscape and urban design expertise to enhance early-stage planning, reduce downstream delivery risk and cost escalation, and contribute to the ongoing development and application of the SI Pattern Book, particularly for master planning, site structure, and landscape frameworks.

Reporting to the Design Manager, this role suits an experienced built environment professional, passionate about solving complex design challenges and delivering high-quality learning environments.

About you

* Experience contributing to urban and landscape design projects,
* Hands on involvement in early planning, layouts and design coordination,
* Ability to review drawings and reports for quality and compliance,
* Practical communicator working closely with project and consultant teams,
* Knowledge of the Education Facilities Standards and Guidelines (EFSG) at EFSG Home or experience designing NSW Government schools is advantageous but not essential.
* Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department's Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

Essential requirements of the role

* Tertiary qualifications in Landscape Architecture, Urban Design or a related discipline and/or relevant, equivalent experience,
* Proficiency in 3D modelling software Revit (essential); FORMA (desirable),
* Flexibility to travel to state-wide locations,
* A current and valid driver's licence,
* Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
