Job Summary
A Concrete Pump Operator is a skilled machine operator who typically works on construction job sites, often visiting one or two sites in a day. Responsibilities include controlling the pump operation and concrete output by directing the boom, transporting the machine to and from job sites, and ensuring the pump is ready for the next job.
Responsibilities
* Drive the pump safely to the job site and back to the yard.
* Operate the pump safely, set up the system, and clean it after each job.
* Perform light maintenance repairs; recognize problems and report them.
* Represent the company with courteous customer service.
* Maintain cleanliness of the pump, truck, and system.
* Return the system to the appropriate yard location and keep the yard orderly.
* Complete and submit pump inspection forms, job tickets, maintenance forms, and accurate timecards.
* Perform routine maintenance such as greasing fittings, changing gaskets, and checking fluid levels.
Education and Experience
* High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
* 6 to 12 months of experience or equivalent work conditions.
* CDL license.
* DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate.
* Ability to pass a Functional Capacity Exam (FCE).
Knowledge
* Familiarity with construction safety regulations.
* Customer service mindset.
* Familiarity with the concrete industry is a plus.
Skills
* Experience in a fast‐paced, changing organization.
* Self‐management of priorities and deliverables; flexibility in responding to changing demands.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to present ideas clearly.
Physical Demands
* Meet DOT requirements for hearing and vision; communicate verbally.
* Manual dexterity for climbing on and around the pump in all weather.
* Lift up to 75 pounds overhead; push or pull up to 50 pounds.
* Maneuver safely on a construction site and outdoors in all weather conditions.
* Drug‐ and alcohol‐free status required.
* Stand 20% of shift, walk 20% of shift, sit 60% of shift; lift 50 lbs occasionally; push/pull 50 lbs occasionally.
* Climb, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and handle repetitive motions throughout an 8‐14‐hour shift.
* Pass hearing, vision, and depth‐perception DOT tests.
Working Conditions and Additional Requirements
This role operates in both shop environments and on construction sites. Hours fluctuate with business demands, and travel to other shop locations may be required. The work environment can be loud and expose workers to extreme cold and heat, moving mechanical parts, wet or humid conditions, fumes, chemicals, vibration, and cement exposure. Personal protective equipment—safety glasses, hard hat, ear plugs, work boots, and gloves—is mandatory. Company vehicles will be used on company business; a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record are required, and employees are subject to pre‐employment and ongoing motor‐vehicle, alcohol, and drug testing.
