About the business unit The FAS is a landmark reform. that will replace the judicially based Victims of Crime Assistance Tribunal with an administrative scheme that prioritises the needs of victims and supports their recovery from violent crime. The FAS is highly anticipated by victims and stakeholders and represents a major leap forward in the Victorian Government's response to victims of crime. Established under the Victims of Crime (Financial Assistance Scheme) Act 2022 (the Act) the FAS will provide financial assistance through a simple and easy to navigate process that is fair, sensitive, and responsive to victims' needs. It will acknowledge harm done and be trauma inform.ed, inclusive and culturally safe. About the role Reporting to the FAS Assessment Manager you will be responsible for leading a team of assessors and making determination on complex applications as per the Act, established policy, guidelines, and procedures. We are seeking an enthusiastic leader who has experience in managing teams of people within a high-paced work environment. We are looking for someone who has experience in reviewing inform.ation and determining outcomes that will have a direct impact on applicants' well-being. Being confident to make decisions that reduce harm to applicants and to develop timely responses to support operational needs will be critical. Some of your duties will include: Lead a team of FAS Assessors, supporting and guiding them to deliver quality decision making in a timely and trauma inform.ed way. Analyse, assess and decide complex applications and payments as per the Act, and decide upon complex applications that may partially fall outside of established policy, guidelines, and procedures. About you To be successful in this role, you will have: • Experience in management of small teams with complex decision-making functions, preferably in a government environment. Specialist knowledge of risk factors for family violence and the Family Violence Multi-Agency Risk Assessment and Management Framework Demonstrated commitment to actively pursuing a culturally safe workplace and organisation and improved outcomes for Aboriginal people, aligned with the principle of self-determination.
