Primary objectives

Deliver high-quality financial management services to ensure the timely and accurate processing, reconciliation, and

reporting of financial information. This includes corporate accounts processing, preparation of journals, data integrity checks,

and effective engagement with stakeholders.

Context statement

The Finance and Facilities unit provides shared corporate services to both the Department of Children and Families and the

Department of People, Sport and Culture, delivering financial management, accounting, reporting and compliance services

in a complex, multi-agency environment. The role contributes to reliable financial operations that support informed decision-

making and organisational accountability.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Maintain accurate financial records through timely processing of transactions, including accounts payable/receivable, end

of month accruals, disbursement, and reconciliations, ensuring compliance with legislation and agency requirements.

1. Apply financial policy, taxation (GST, FBT) and accounting knowledge to review and verify transactions, maintain financial

registers, and ensure the integrity of financial information.

1. Provide guidance, training and system support to departmental staff to improve financial capability, ensure compliance

with procedures, and strengthen internal stakeholder relationships.

1. Contribute to the development and improvement of financial policies, procedures and reporting processes by identifying

issues, analysing data, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

1. Demonstrate initiative, accountability, and professionalism by maintaining accurate records, meeting deadlines,

supporting team goals, and upholding NTPS values, the code of conduct, and WHS obligations.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated experience in accrual accounting, journal processing, reconciliations, and financial operations, with sound

knowledge of relevant legislation, accounting standards and taxation requirements (e.g. GST, FBT).

2. Proven ability to analyse and interpret financial data, meet deadlines, and produce accurate financial information that

meets compliance and audit expectations.

3. Proficiency with financial systems, spreadsheets and reporting tools, including experience in data analysis, reconciliation,

and maintaining accurate financial records.

4. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly explain financial matters, provide support to staff,

and work effectively within a team and across stakeholders.

5. Demonstrated professionalism, confidentiality and adaptability, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and

process improvement.

Desirable

1. Tertiary qualification in accounting, commerce or business-related field.
