Thompson Institute

UniSC's Thompson Institute addresses society's most pressing mental health issues. We integrate world‐class research, clinical programs and education under one roof to translate the latest science into programs that benefit society. Everything we do is underpinned by neuroscience, uncovering promising new insights into mental health and how it is linked to our brain structure and function.

The Opportunity

Join a growing research program at the Thompson Institute exploring how modern stressors shape the mental health and development of young people. As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, you will lead innovative, multidisciplinary research examining the psychological and neurobiological impacts of adverse and socially mediated stress, from social‐media–driven appearance pressures and cyberbullying to exposure to distressing online content. Using cutting‐edge longitudinal, behavioural, and neurobiological approaches, the role will investigate how these contemporary stressors influence adolescent brain development, body image, social‐stress responses, and risk for emerging mental‐health challenges while developing trauma‐informed, developmentally sensitive interventions across clinical, school, community, and digital settings.

You will:
* Conduct innovative research: take the lead in designing and conducting research projects aligned with your expertise and UniSC's priorities, employing rigorous methodologies and staying up to date with the latest advances.
* Publish research findings: disseminate findings through high‐impact publications, conferences and other scholarly outlets.
* Collaborate with research team: engage in collaborative efforts within a supportive and productive research environment, contributing expertise to interdisciplinary projects.

You are an emerging researcher building your academic profile in youth mental health and traumatic stress, with a growing track record of contributing to research projects and publishing in quality peer‐reviewed journals. You enjoy working collaboratively in research teams and are interested in supporting student development through co‐supervision of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students. You also want to contribute to the university community and develop productive links with industry and community partners through outreach and engagement activities that benefit students and the wider community.

* Effectiveness as a teacher, including the capacity to conceive, develop and deliver higher‐education curricula and contribute to relevant teaching activities.
