METAL POLISHER / FINISHER (Stainless Steel) – FULL TIME
$35–$45/hr + Super (depending on experience) | Ormeau (Gold Coast)
Not for the faint‐hearted. Perfect for someone who takes pride in a flawless finish.
If you've worked in a role where the finish matters—automotive detailing, fibreglass/boat finishing, stone or concrete polishing, powder-coat prep, timber finishing, metal prep, or similar—this could be your next step.
Metal polishing is a dirty job. It's noisy, hands-on, and physically demanding.
But for the right person, it's also seriously satisfying: turning raw fabrication into a premium, mirror-clean result.
ABOUT SOUTHERN STAINLESS
Southern Stainless is a proudly Australian-owned metal fabrication business based in Ormeau on the Gold Coast. We specialise in stainless steel design, fabrication, installation and maintenance across marine, residential, commercial and bespoke architectural projects—plus the design and production of CookoutTM gas & electric BBQs and decorative fire appliances.
We're known for meticulous craftsmanship and high standards—because our work ends up on premium homes, boats, and high-visibility installs.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING (THE WORK)
You'll be the key step between fabrication and "finished product".
• Sanding and blending welds on stainless steel joins using sanding discs across various grit grades
• Polishing welds and surfaces using a range of hard and soft mops on pedestal tools and handheld angle/barrel grinders
• Understanding abrasive grades, mop selection, and process steps to consistently achieve the best finish (satin through to high polish, depending on the job)
• Working alongside tradesmen and apprentices to complete the finishing on fabricated jobs
• Communicating constructively during handover: best practice, finish expectations, and quality standards
• Maintaining your tools, workstation, and general factory cleanliness
• Following company policies, safety procedures, and quality checks
WHO THIS SUITS (MINDSET FIRST)
We're looking for someone who:
• Has grit. This is hands-on finishing work—dust, compound, noise, and repetition are part of the deal
• Has a "craftsperson" mindset—cares about detail and takes pride in a perfect finish
• Is reliable, steady, and works well in a team environment
• Can take feedback and also speak up when something isn't ready for finishing
• Understands that the final finish is what customers remember
Experience in stainless polishing is ideal—but we're also keen to hear from people with transferable finishing skills from other industries.
WHAT YOU'LL GET
• A progressive work environment with a 4-day work week (38 hours, Monday–Thursday), plus optional overtime on Fridays
• Variety of work: marine, architectural, residential and product-based stainless projects
• Training and development (including structured guidance if you're crossing over from another industry)
• A team that values quality, process, and getting the job done properly
• Job stability in an established business with consistent workflow
