About the Opportunity The First Nations Collections Officer looks after the Yoorrook Official Public Record (OPR) and engages with the First Peoples' Assembly of Victoria (FPAV). The role supports and coordinates the FPAV and Victorian Indigenous Research Centre (VIRC) Yoorrook Archive First Nations Governance Committee. The First Nations Collections Officer role sits within the Victorian Indigenous Research Centre, which provides a culturally appropriate space for the community to access and connect with cultural heritage collections and family history. The OPR includes a website and a collection of physical artefacts. The First Nations Collections Officer will help the VIRC to sustain the OPR. The purpose of the role is to promote a shared understanding among all Victorians of First Peoples experiences of the ongoing impacts of colonisation. From May 2026, the First Nations Collections Officer will work closely with Gellung Warl, as well as continuing to engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and internal teams at State Library Victoria. The First Nations Collections Officer will: * Support the partnership between State Library Victoria, the Victorian Indigenous Research Centre, the First Peoples Assembly and Gellung Warl * Provide support for the Yoorrook OPR, including the website * Ensure accessibility, cultural safety and data integrity of the OPR * Liaise respectfully with authors, community members and contributors * Act as a first point-of-contact for enquiries about the Yoorrook OPR * Contribute to reports and documents that help cultural governance, transparency and decision-making in relation to the Yoorrook OPR. About You We value your understanding of the beliefs, customs, needs and expectations of First Nations community members, as well as your knowledge of other indigenous protocols and principles. Your digital skills include an interest in learning more about web accessibility, content delivery and the user experience. You like to improve systems and know how important it is to keep everyone up to date with your work. In addition, we are looking for: * Experience working with Aboriginal communities in culturally safe and respectful ways * Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP) and Indigenous Data Governance principles * Demonstrated experience in upholding and working in line with Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property and Indigenous Data Sovereignty principles * Experience with supporting collection management systems, digital archives, or website content management * Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities * Excellent communication, project coordination and relationship-building skills.
