Protecnium is an international consulting firm specializing in engineering and technical services. We are currently seeking a Ventilation Engineer to join our team for a major underground tunnelling and mining project in New South Wales.
Location: Cooma, NSW, Australia (on-site)
Roster:
* Based in Cooma: Monday to Friday – day shift
* Based elsewhere: 14 days on / 7 days off rotation
Role Overview
The Ventilation Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of underground ventilation systems to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operations. The role will involve developing ventilation plans, conducting surveys, managing risks, and optimising system performance in line with regulatory standards and environmental requirements.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop sustainable and compliant underground ventilation designs and execution plans.
* Produce layouts, conduct scenario planning, and prepare CAPEX/OPEX estimates.
* Conduct ventilation surveys, implement testing, and calibrate instrumentation.
* Update ventilation network models using Ventsim™ or VUMA.
* Select appropriate ventilation equipment (fans, ducting, filtration systems).
* Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, subcontractors, and suppliers.
* Provide technical expertise to support operational decision-making.
* Identify and mitigate risks to improve system reliability.
* Maintain effective communication with stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
Requirements
* Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or Mine Environmental Control.
* Minimum 3 years’ experience in underground mining or tunnelling environments.
* Proficiency in mine ventilation software (Ventsim™ or VUMA).
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
* Valid Driver’s License, Passport, and White Card.
* Ability and willingness to travel to various worksites.
* Strong commitment to health, safety, and sustainability.
* English proficiency at C1 level or higher (CEFR standard).
