Senior Category Lead, Engineered & Technical Products
We are partnering with a well‐established industrial and construction products organisation to appoint a senior Category Leader responsible for one of the business' most commercially significant and technically complex portfolios. This is a high‐impact leadership role with broad strategic, commercial and operational influence across the business. The successful candidate will own the long‐term category direction, portfolio health, commercial performance, innovation pipeline and market positioning across a large and highly engineered product portfolio servicing the construction and infrastructure sectors. The portfolio operates within a specification‐led environment where product performance, technical compliance, engineering standards, contractor adoption and channel alignment are critical to success. Products are sold into complex B2B markets involving distributors, contractors, engineers, architects and commercial construction stakeholders. The remit extends well beyond traditional product management or downstream marketing. This role carries full accountability for category performance across revenue growth, margin expansion, product mix optimisation and long‐term strategic positioning.
Key Responsibilities
* Defining and driving category strategy across multiple product segments, ensuring alignment to broader commercial and business priorities
* Owning category performance across revenue, profitability, margin and mix, identifying growth opportunities and performance risks
* Leading portfolio investment decisions, including prioritisation of resources, product lifecycle management, SKU rationalisation and simplification initiatives
* Building and executing innovation pipelines aligned to long‐term growth opportunities and market needs
* Identifying whitespace opportunities, emerging market trends, competitive threats and unmet customer needs across the category
* Developing compelling value propositions and go‐to‐market strategies for technically sophisticated products
* Partnering closely with sales leadership, engineering, operations and supply chain functions to ensure commercial alignment and execution discipline
* Driving pricing, positioning and channel strategies to improve commercial performance and market competitiveness
* Leading portfolio reviews and performance analysis, using data, financial metrics and market insights to shape decision‐making
* Acting as the senior category voice within the business, influencing stakeholders across multiple functions and contributing to broader strategic decisions
* Leading, mentoring and developing a team of Product Managers, improving commercial capability, pace of execution and accountability across the function
* Simplifying complexity across the category, ensuring teams remain focused on the highest‐value opportunities and commercial priorities
This role requires a commercially mature and strategically minded leader who can comfortably operate across both technical and commercial conversations. The successful candidate will be expected to influence at a senior level, challenge thinking, and drive clarity in an environment with multiple stakeholders, competing priorities and technically complex products.
