The Ballina Netball Association (BNA) is a community-run, inclusive netball organisation committed to promoting netball across all ages and skill-levels in the Ballina region. We run social and performance competitions — including Saturday winter, indoor and twilight competitions — and provide development pathways for coaches, umpires and high-performance athletes. Our volunteers and committee work together to foster a welcoming, supportive and sustainable netball community.
The Role
As Competitions/Operations Coordinator, you will play a central role in ensuring BNA's competitions, events and programs run smoothly. Reporting to the President and working closely with committee members and volunteers, you will coordinate competitions, manage rostering, support canteen and volunteer operations, coordinate coaching clinics, and provide general administrative support.
What you'll do
Supervise evening netball competitions (indoor, twilight) — including setting up venues, printing and submitting scoresheets, timekeeping, liaising with umpires, handling on-court issues, ensuring safety and first aid readiness, and communicating with participants.
Coordinate umpire and volunteer rosters (umpires, canteen, general club duties), liaise with volunteers, monitor attendance, and prepare remuneration timesheets.
Support canteen coordinator during winter competition: manage stock, liaise with suppliers, coordinate volunteer canteen rosters, and support day-to-day canteen administration.
Help coordinate coaching clinics (holiday and after-school), including scheduling venues, managing registrations, liaising with coaches/volunteers, handling logistics, and providing on-site support when/if needed.
Provide general administration support: produce monthly newsletters, assist with club events and projects, coordinate volunteer rosters for club functions/fundraisers, and support committee as required.
What We're Looking For
Strong organisational and time-management skills; ability to multitask across competitions, events, rostering and admin duties.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; comfortable liaising with volunteers, umpires, coaches, participants, committee and suppliers.
Ability to work independently, showing initiative and reliability, with a proactive and flexible mindset.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and comfortable using databases, roster systems or similar tools. Must have own laptop/device, internet, and reliable transport (access to own motor vehicle).
A customer-service focused approach and appreciation for working within a volunteer-based community sports environment.
Desirable: previous experience in sports administration, event coordination or volunteer workforce management; interest or background in netball, club operations, or coaching/umpiring.
Casual role — approximately ***** hours per week, variable depending on season, competition rounds and event schedule.
Evening work required (Monday twilight and Thursday indoor).
Work will be a mix of on-site at BNA venues and remote (work-from-home) administrative tasks.
What We Offer
A chance to make a real difference in a community-driven, inclusive sports organisation.
Flexible working hours and a casual structure that can suit a range of lifestyles (students, part-time workers, carers, etc.).
Engagement with local community, volunteers, coaches and participants — and the opportunity to be part of growing and sustaining netball in the Ballina region.
Valuable experience in sports administration, event coordination, rostering and community management — great for those wanting to build skills in sports management or community development.
A cover letter outlining your interest in the role and suitability;
