About The Opportunity

As a Senior Strategic Planner your focus is to provide high level assistance to the Manager Land Use Planning and Policy with the preparation, development and maintenance of the Council's statutory land use planning instruments and projects, including the Bundaberg Region Planning Scheme. The position will also be responsible for project management of strategic planning projects and policy development and acting in the role of Manager in times of absence.

Key Responsibilities

* Conduct and coordinate strategic planning projects, studies and research to refine and improve land use planning and policy development within the Bundaberg Region, including managing projects being undertaken by external consultants or other internal staff
* Provide input into the land use strategic planning functions of Council, including the preparation of amendments to the Bundaberg Regional Planning Scheme and other planning instruments
* Review and maintain Council's planning instruments, prepare planning scheme amendments and undertake associated administrative functions required under the Planning Act 2016
* Provide advice to and consult with Council and stakeholders, including the public, on strategic planning issues
* Represent Council's interests in working groups/forums and in projects being carried out by other departments and agencies that have strategic land use planning implications
* Provide strategic and policy advice on planning applications and land use proposals
* Actively participate in the development of initiatives designed to improve Council's Development Assessment functions, particularly where strategic planning involvement is required
* Other strategic land use planning tasks as required
* Compilation of professional planning reports on strategic planning matters for Council and stakeholder consideration
* Attend to correspondence relating to strategic planning matters
* Where required, assist with the assessment of development applications
* It is expected that the incumbent undertakes other reasonable duties and tasks requested by Management within the incumbents' capabilities, including additional duties as required during periods of absence of other staff

About You

We're seeking a proactive senior planner with the skills and experience to drive policy development and land use strategies.

Mandatory Requirements:

* Tertiary Degree in Urban and Regional Planning
* Experience in strategic planning, planning scheme drafting and compilation, and policy development
* Full membership of the Planning Institute of Australia, Registered Planner status highly desirable
* Current Drivers Licence

Desired Requirements:

* Experience working in a local government planning or development assessment team
* Postgraduate or other qualification in Management or equivalent management skills and experience
* Experience or qualifications in cultural heritage management
