Offer description

To apply, please answer these 3 questions (your responses matter more than your CV):

1. What's the most commercially successful product you've worked on?

Briefly describe the product, your specific contribution, and the outcome. Include the commercial result and how you iterated the design (key changes and/or prototype-test loops).
2. Share an example where simulation/FEA changed your design direction.

What did you model, what result mattered, what design change did you make, and how did you validate it (test data, field feedback, or production results)?
3. Describe one improvement you drove that made a product easier to manufacture and more competitive.

What was the before/after impact?
-----------------------------------

The role

We're looking for a hands-on engineer with strong aptitude and a drive to create. You'll design and develop new products for the building industry, taking concepts through to validated, production-ready release.

You'll work across SolidWorks, materials/process selection, and simulation/FEA, designing for tooling, manufacturability, and cost competitiveness in a high-cost manufacturing environment. This role suits engineers who like ownership and variety—moving between design, analysis, prototyping, testing and manufacturing readiness to deliver production-ready outcomes through short iteration cycles.

What's on offer

* Long-term stability within an established business with a strong track record in the building industry.
* A role with real scope and autonomy—you'll be trusted to take ideas from concept to production release.
* The chance to showcase your engineering craft: design, materials, process selection, simulation, prototyping and validation.
* A practical environment focused on shipping great products—with direct input into how designs are manufactured and tooled.

What you'll do

* Own end-to-end mechanical design for new products: requirements → concept → CAD → prototype → test/validation → release.
* Produce high-quality SolidWorks models, assemblies, drawings and BOMs, with strong plastics modelling capability.
* Select materials and processes together—understanding how the manufacturing method dictates design (injection moulding, extrusion, compression moulding, machining, joining/assembly).
* Design for ease of manufacture: draft, ribs, wall thickness, shrink/warpage awareness, tolerance strategy, part consolidation, tooling-friendly geometry, and straightforward assembly.
* Apply engineering analysis to de-risk designs: simulation/FEA (and, where relevant, broader modelling such as flow/air/aero considerations depending on the product).
* Prototype quickly (3D print, machining, soft tooling), test intelligently, and iterate based on evidence and field feedback.
* Collaborate early with toolmakers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to ensure designs translate into robust tooling and repeatable production.

What you'll bring

Must-have

* Strong mechanical design fundamentals and a practical, hands-on approach.
* SolidWorks proficiency (parts, assemblies, drawings; plastics modelling experience essential).
* Working knowledge of polymers and materials behaviour (UV/weathering, chemical resistance, creep, thermal movement, fatigue/sealing).
* Demonstrated DFM thinking—you design with tooling, process capability, assembly and cost in mind.
* Ability to communicate trade-offs clearly and work effectively with manufacturing and suppliers.
* SolidWorks Simulation (or equivalent) FEA experience, with evidence of decisions influenced by analysis.
* Engineering qualification or demonstrable equivalent capability

Nice to have

* Worked within building product compliance frameworks, including interpreting/applying relevant Australian Standards and NCC requirements and supporting certification/approval activities.
* Designed products for plumbing and water applications, with practical awareness of testing and certification requirements.
