**The Opportunities**
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) seeks energetic and talented media, social media and communications specialists who are interested in communicating with influence externally and internally. We have a range of vacancies in the Communication Branch (CMB).
Media officers work in consultation with a range of divisions, overseas posts and State and Territory Offices, to respond to lead the department's engagement with the media and support Ministers as the spokesperson for the portfolio. This includes work to respond to media enquiries, support our international advocacy, program and service delivery and advice on domestic campaign activity.
Strategic communications and social media officers help to communicate the Australian Government and DFAT's policies and priorities to domestic and international audiences. We work across DFAT and with other government agencies to develop and implement communications strategies for foreign and trade policy, development and consular priorities. We also support our Embassies, High Commissions and Consulates to connect and engage with audiences in their host countries, and with Australians overseas. This can include through ongoing social media for DFAT's central channels or network of overseas accounts.
We also work across the department to ensure clear, coordinated and effective internal communications.
Speechwriters write speeches for portfolio Ministers and the Senior Executive officers.
Website publishing officers manage the content on DFAT intranet, DFAT website and ministerial websites.
Multimedia officers produce digital content (animation, photography, infographics, film, social media). They also provide visual communications support for key departmental, media and public events, in, including support for Ministers and the Senior Executive.
