Position Information
Blacktown West is an inclusive primary school situated in Western Sydney with an enrolment of 488 students, consisting of 21 mainstream classes and 3 support classes. Cultural diversity is acknowledged and celebrated to encompass the 44 languages represented in our community. 69.7% of students come from families with a Language Background other than English (LBOTE) and 7.9% of students identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander (ATSI). Students are supported in their learning by a dedicated staff who create a challenging learning environment that encourages high expectations and develops students' emotional intelligence and resilience. Data is effectively used to determine student needs and to guide programs. Our delivery of support is adjusted based on regular assessment, collaboration and consultation. The analysis determines areas of need and enables success at a class and school level supporting students with diverse needs including high potential and gifted learners. The school values strong partnerships with parents and the broader community.
Selection Criteria
* Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with autism, intellectual disability, behaviour disorders and complex communication needs.
* Ability to develop, implement and monitor age-appropriate high quality differentiated curriculum and teaching strategies tailored to individual students incorporating best practices and evidence-based approaches to maximise engagement and learning outcomes.
* Well developed communication skills with the capacity to build a culture of inclusion, well-being and authentic relationships with students, parents and staff.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
