We are seeking an established senior leader to fill the role of Program Manager (Senior Executive 1), Security and Information Assurance Branch within the Technology and Security Division (TSD). The Security and Information Assurance Branch is responsible for keeping the ABS, its people, data, information and services secure and maintain the trust of Australians.

The Technology and Security Division provisions technology and security capabilities that underpin ABS operations and supports enterprise outcomes and transformation.
We partner closely with business areas, other government agencies and external stakeholders to deliver ABS objectives. We pursue technology evolution and innovation through efficient and professional services that maximise the value of IT for the ABS. We strive to place our staff and clients at the centre of our services. The Division works to deliver excellent user experiences with a strong focus on user engagement, flexible and effective agile delivery.
The Security and Information Assurance (SIA) branch proactively protects ABS people, technology, data and assets from evolving threats, embedding security by design and the latest security frameworks. SIA plays a key role across the transformational programs being undertaken within the ABS.
The branch consists of more than 100 staff, including a mix of APS and contractor/external partners working across various offices in Australia.
About the role
This role will report to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), General Manager of the Technology and Security Division.
The CISO provides strategic leadership, risk management, and expert advice to protect the organisation's people, digital and information assets. Operating at the enterprise level, the CISO is accountable for shaping and implementing a whole-of-agency cyber security strategy, ensuring compliance with government security frameworks, and embedding a strong culture of information and system protections.
The CISO acts as the senior security authority within the organisation, stewarding trust, transparency, and resilience across all programs of work, while aligning cyber security priorities with business objectives and the broader APS mission.
Importantly as a branch head the CISO is also required to have a high level of experience in delivering operational and program outcomes. The ability to drive outcomes to target dates, balancing fundings, resourcing and work program outcomes is a critical success factor. Candidates are expected to be skilled in delivery including fulfilling the role of a senior responsible officer where required.

This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the effective management of the Security and Information assurance branch, while providing strategic leadership and advice as part of the ABS' Senior Executive team.
