As an accomplished senior site reliability engineer, you'll be a highly effective technical leader and mentor, helping shape the future of digital government. You'll work alongside talented engineers, designers, and product managers in a collaborative, purpose‑driven environment – where your ideas and influence matter.
What you'll do
* Champion engineering excellence, resilient systems, automated processes and practice uplift across teams.
* Mentor and inspire more junior engineers, fostering a culture of learning, growth and collaboration.
* Apply systems thinking and contribute to technical design – we'd love to see experience designing solutions in large or complex ecosystems.
* Design, architect and develop solutions to complex technical problems across large‑scale systems.
* Collaborate in agile ceremonies, retros, and engineering community events.
* Continuously learn through hackathons, knowledge‑sharing sessions, and our onboarding academy.
* Share your expertise and collaborate with product teams.

What we're looking for
* Can demonstrate significant experience in site reliability engineering and automation, ensuring high availability.
* Have experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerised infrastructure.
* Embrace XP practices and are open to learning and contributing to a strong engineering culture.
* Communicate well, enjoy working in and with product teams, and care about the customer experience.
* Have a passion for mentoring, inspiring others, and see their careers progressing into technical or people leadership.
* Bring strong fundamentals in architecture, design patterns, concurrency, and problem‑solving.
Eligibility
To be considered for roles in the NSW public sector, applicants must:
* Be NSW residents or willing to relocate.
* Hold appropriate working rights for the type of employment offered.
* Ongoing (permanent) roles require Australian citizenship or permanent residency.
* Temporary roles require valid work rights for the full duration of the role.

Our recruitment process
Our recruitment and assessment process is merit based. For this recruitment we will be conducting a minimum of three interview and assessment stages that form a comparative process.
This will include;

Support office roles will be headquartered across McKell, Parramatta and Gosford. We will consider role headquarters outside of the above locations where the role can reasonably be performed from that location taking into consideration the operational, financial and customer requirements of the role, and an ability to attend a NSW Government workplace as required. At the point an employee is notified of our intention to assign them to a role, the relevant leader will discuss headquarter options.
Salary Grade SNSW 9/10, with the base salary for this role starting at $130,705 base plus superannuation.
